If you live in Round Rock and need to stop drinking safely, you want to know where the nearest medical detox is and what it involves. To be clear from the start: Briarwood does not have a center in Round Rock. Its nearest center is in north Austin, at 11711 N Lamar Blvd. This page explains when alcohol detox needs medical care, what a stay at the Austin center involves, what it costs, and the public services that cover Williamson County.
Is there an alcohol detox center in Round Rock?
Briarwood does not have one in Round Rock. Its nearest medical detox center is in north Austin at 11711 N Lamar Blvd, with a nurse on site 24 hours a day.
The Austin center is an inpatient detox, which means you stay overnight while withdrawal is managed. Most stays last five to seven days. The same building also runs Briarwood’s Austin intensive outpatient program, so care after detox can continue in the same place.
The Austin detox center page has photos, the map and what a stay looks like.
Do you need medical detox to stop drinking?
If you drink heavily every day, you should not stop suddenly without medical advice. Alcohol withdrawal can quickly become life threatening.
The National Library of Medicine says withdrawal symptoms usually start within 8 hours of the last drink and peak by 24 to 72 hours. Its severe form, delirium tremens, can cause sudden confusion, hallucinations and seizures, and can be fatal. It advises going to the emergency room or calling 911 if seizures, fever, severe confusion, hallucinations or an irregular heartbeat occur.
Medical detox exists so that someone is watching, and can treat those problems, during the days when they are most likely.
